Two Year Radiotherapy Refurbishment Completed

With the commisioning now completed of the final Varian Truebeam Linear Accelerator, Rocare has completed the final phased refubishment and upgrade of 3 Radiotherapy suites at The Northampton General Hospital.

The first machine installed was housed in a purpose-designed converted building connected to the main hospital site by a new glass walkway, with the second and thrid machines installed within the main Oncology Centre situated within the main hospital complex.

The hospital reported that “With the three new machines, Northampton will be one of the most advanced centres for radiotherapy in the country, with benefits including a greater range of therapies, reduced side effects and improved positioning of patients which means better accuracy in targeting cancer cells.”

Tony O’Donovan Capital Projects Manager and Trust Project Manager for the programme was asked to share his experiences of the turnkey project including his understanding of the ‘anticipated project plan delivery time’ v ‘actual project plan delivery time’………

His response – Rocare carried out the three bunker refurbishment/installs. Their programme was clear, kept to and the works all went very well. In particular the team have an excellent understanding of working in a Hospital environment. Their IPC dust controls were as good as I have ever witnessed, H&S was of a high standard, site controls were excellent, Rocare proved to be a good competent contractor. The whole team communicated well with the staff on site, worked out of hours where need be and generally performed very well. Finishes were of a very good standard, virtually as good as new.
